Poor zinc-nickel plating coverage on I.D.
June 1, 2011
Dear sir,
We are plating zinc nickel component which is having Inner Dia. of 4 mm and Outer Dia. of 10 mm if we plate 10-15 microns in outer dia of component what best thickness we can achieve in Inner dia.?
and is there any method to increase thickness in Inner dia (LCD area)?

Hi, Darshan.
The electroplating thickness essentially follows Faraday's Law of Electrolysis in being proportional to the primary current distribution. Brighteners and addition agents can slightly improve it, and the fact that you are plating an alloy containing metals of different potentials can somewhat complicate it, but current distribution is the primary controlling factor.
If you tell us the length of the components, whether you are barrel plating or rack plating, and whether your process in acid plating or alkaline plating, someone may be able to estimate the depth of coverage on the I.D. for you. Good luck.
