Ni electroplating on steel from Watts bath for nano research

1-in scientific research for industrial company, I'm doing Ni electroplating from watts bath on steel .

I have pure Ni sheet as an anode but faced a problem of pitting on the anode surface and get greater resistance during the electroplating
I used a Ni round sheets contained in a titanium mesh basket and the plating was good but in the case of co-deposit of nano powder material( which is the second stage of my research) I think it's not appropriate ,is it?
I have small platinum mesh . is it better for my case ?

2- can I peel off the coating or should I change the substrate for this target?

Any help I can get is appreciated.

Hi, Abdul. Pure nickel anodes do not readily dissolve in a Watts bath; they can tend to passivate. S-round anodes (sulfur)are helpful, or increasing the chloride level (but then it's not quite a Watts bath anymore).

If you use S-rounds in titanium baskets, the source of nickel is the anodes, so you can have an equilibrium condition. If you use platinum mesh, the nickel has to come from the solution.

Because the nickel plating will passivate quickly, if you plate a second layer onto an existing layer, you should be able to peel it off. Good luck.

If I use S-rounds in titanium baskets, What should I do to prevent obstruction and weight misleading when powder particles are involved in the solution ?

You mentioned (If you use platinum mesh, the nickel has to come from the solution.) is there a problem with that? Aren't Ni ions in watts bath sufficient ?

I tried to peel off the coating (thickness SE150 shm) but couldn't properly, it was fractured.. any help?

Please I need the answers as soon as possible

Sorry, Abdul, I do not know what you mean about "preventing obstruction and weight misleading".

The problem with nickel coming from the solution when platinum anodes are used is that the nickel concentration will decrease: you won't have an equilibrium situation, but will have an additional set of variables to manage. It can be done, it just may be harder to manage.

I am having a difficult time because you are not fully describing what you are doing and I have to guess what you are doing. What is the reason that you trying to strip and replate?

If you are planning to produce a composite nano plating and you want to avoid the occlusion of particles on the anode surface you may isolate the titanium basket by a suitable membrane that allows the nickel ions to flow freely and act as as screen for the particles toward the anode chamber.
