How to calculate the exact quantity of gold plated

What is the formula to calculate the exact amount of 18K or 24K gold, plated 3 micron for instance, plated on whatever item for which we already know the dimensions, 40 x 30 x 10 mm for instance

Hi Philippe. First you find the surface area. You multiply that by the thickness to get the volume of gold that has been plated. You multiply that by the density of gold to determine the weight of the gold.

Another tack you can take is to measure the ampere-minutes of applied plating power, then use Faraday's Law of Electrolysis to ascertain how much gold should have been deposited. Good luck.
