Finger prints on stainless steel

My husband bought me all new kitchen appliances for Christmas, you guessed it Stainless Steel. I love it but have a heck of a time keeping shining and finger print free. Can anyone tell me what to use.

Thanks,

Maybe you can try MD-40.

Ed. note: Never heard of that, Mark. I suspect it was a typo for WD-40 [on eBay or Amazon] ?

Hi Patricia,
A friend of mine introduced me to a great way to remove fingerprints from stainless. Get a good quality sheepskin (Chamois [affil links]) cloth. Dip in clean warm water, wring out well, and wipe in the same direction of the grain. It has worked well for me over the years. I've also used Sheila Shine [affil links] which works well but you have to dry the first application with a lint free soft cloth, or the appliance will attract dust and dirt instead of repelling it. Good luck!

Rubbing Alcohol cut with distilled water is supposed to work pretty well. I don't have any stainless steel appliances, so I don't have much personal experience. letter 29473 talked about a spray from 3M that PREVENTS fingerprints - so that might be something you want to look into also.

The rubbing alcohol, by the way, was mentioned in letters 31113 and 25123.

Good Luck!

There are a number of good stainless steel cleaners available at local markets and hardware stores. There is no GOOD way to prevent fingerprinting, etc. except to clean it regularly. DO NOT use bleach or other chloride containing solutions, or muriatic acid [affil links]!

Buy MicroTex cleaning towels. They are in an 8 pack for about $5. Just wet with water and rub in the direction of the grain. Fingerprints disappear like magic

To keep the fingerprints to a minimum I keep a cloth in the drawer and when fingerprints appear I call the son and daughter into the kitchen and have each one clean a door. It has cut way down on the fingerprints! LOL

I just removed the protective plastic from the doors of my new refrigerator. How do I get rid of these huge discolored streaks?

Over several days, spray Lemon Pledge on the stainless surface, and wipe it off gently with a clean cloth, just like you were using it on furniture. This will form a microscopic coating of wax on the stainless surface. When you touch the surface, you will be actually touching the wax coating, not the stainless steel.
