Hi Matthew,
The question you have asked is almost impossible to answer without more details such as what you want to plate over the zinc, the volume of work you are likely to be doing and also the size of the parts.

The best advice I can give you is to read a few books on the subject so you can gain an appreciation of the process involved and then contact a plating chemical supply company or a consultant to help determine the costs. You also need to consider the cost of permits and waste treatment, so the capital required for starting a new shop can be rarther high.

best of luck & go fishing for me on the weekend... I miss Gosford.

I have to agree with Peter on this one. You did not give sufficient information. Do you want to use an alkaline based zinc or a cyanide based zinc? I would get some books or do some research from a search engine or what have you.

Good Luck

Define what your customer requires (specs, environment, what is it for, etc.)

Also you need to plunge into the literature. Read ASM Metals Handbook: Surface Cleaning, Finishing and Coating. It is a good reference.
