Hi
I found that a similar discussion was carried over and the url is
www.finishing.com/307/63.shtml

In short what I understood was
VDI = Verein Deutscher Ingenieure, the Society of German Engineers. There is a VDI scale for surface finishes, which is widely but not exclusively used in the EDM field.

Also a comparison scale is at
http://www.rubert.co.uk/comparison.php

We got a chart through EDM today for the comparison.

Hope this helps

Thanks
