Clarification regarding ASTM B117 Test

Hi,

I am working corrosion resistant paints that are applied on the Induction Motors. I heard that paints are certified based upon ASTM B117--96 hrs test.

Can you please provide, what is salt spray test and how the paints are certified after the test. i.e., any special type of corrosion resistant measurement or based upon the comparison with non exposed material.

Hello Harishankar. What is missing from your question is a specification for the painting. That will include the criteria you are looking for. ASTM B117 says how the salt fog cabinet is designed and operated, but the painting spec says what the pass/fail criteria are.
