Removal and Prevention of White Streak on Stainless Surfaces

Why do white streaks develop on our tanks after using for sometime? Is it because of our cleaning (caustic soda [affil links] ) and sanitizing (chlorine) solution are attacking the metal? How can we remove what is present now?

Hi, Patricio. Chlorine is a major problem for most stainless steels. Are the tanks 316SS or better? letters 3354, 6370, 13241, and 32256 are just a fraction of the discussions you can review on that topic.

As for removing the current stains, I think mechanical polishing followed by re-passivating may be the most promising approach. Good luck with it.
