-----Coated Valve Threads
We manufacture tire valves for the Aerospace Industry. These valves are machined on a CNC from 303 stainless steel.The valve threads are undercut by 6 times the minimum coating thickness (.0003) to allow for plating. Then the valves are tin plated per Mil-T-10727 Type I .0003 min./.0005 max. plating thickness. The valves are checked after plating with standard Go/No Go thread rings. We are experiencing a large percentage of rejects for over and undersize threads due to the plating build up in the threads. Masking the threads is not an option. Does anyone have a suggestion or possible solution to the thread problem we are experiencing?

My guess is that you are rack plating. The parts near the outside get a lot more plate than the ones in the center unless there is a shield or a thief to reduce the plating on the outer area.
Plating slower might help.
Tweaking the bath to be less efficient might help.
Placing the anodes further away or optimizing them for center of the rack plating probably will help. This may take some special anode baskets ⇦ huh? to be manufactured.

If you are barrel plating, you have a real problem.
