Pictures of triple chrome plated products

Q. Does anyone know where I can find pictures of triple chromed products in various stages... bare, copper, nickel, and then chrome plated

A. I would be very cautious about the use of the phrase "triple chromed" or "triple chrome plated". There is no accepted definition for these terms. It is basically an advertising gimmick. For a fee, your nearest bumper chrome plater should be able to provide you with pictures. There is an outside possibility that AESF or AMS or Kushner Electroplating School could provide you pictures from their classes on chrome plating (for a fee).

A. If you will follow this link you will see copper, nickel and chrome at various stages. Even some pitted pot metal in progress.

A. For what it is worth, FED-QQN-290 (replaced by AMSQQN290) A section 6.7.4 describes triple plate and it's supposed corrosion resistant purpose. Maybe the spec writer knew something we don't?

thumbs up sign Thanks, Jeff.

Yes, there is such a thing as triplex nickel plating as described in that spec, just as there is duplex nickel plating and they offer better corrosion protection than single layer nickel plating.

But "triple chrome" is a buzzword used by salespeople that means nothing today except three layers of something -- often copper, nickel, and chrome. As James implies, a buyer who thinks he will get even duplex nickel, let alone triplex nickel, by asking for "triple chrome plating" is virtually sure to be very disappointed :-)

A. This video is 10 minutes and shows the plating at those stages and the preparation of the part for plating.
