Ballizing Process Needed

I am looking for some technical information on the "BALLIZING" process. I have heard in passing that the finish is some of the best possible.

What I am looking for is the tolerance of material to be left in a 1.000, 1.0625 & 1.125 bore for this process. The stroke will be 3.500 long. And material is forged aluminum.

Also, the bore will have a hard coat anodize finish.

Please, any information, and or a company that is actively involved in this process would be of GREAT HELP.

Thank You

Q. I have been working on using Ballizing or Ball Broaching to achieve a 15 micron (0.015 mm)tolerance on the ID of a tube I am producing

The ID is 9 mm in diameter ± 0.015, the diameter is the central 13 mm in a 33 mm tube with the 10 mm at either end being counterbored out to 9.2 mm with a loose tolerance.

I have run a number of tests with hardened steel bearing balls and am confident that the process can achieve the desired tolerance.

I am now at the stage where I need to look at applying some data to the process such as times (lead), pressure used to push the ball through, etc., to achieve the best finish possible, springback allowances, etc., so that I can use this process in full scale production,

Any ideas where I can find this information, useful resources or books that are worth finding ? Any contact names who could answer broaching or ballizing queries may also help ?

Regards
Greg
