Although it may not be quite "complete", I can recommended Samuel Spring's Preparation of Metal for Painting ⇦[this on Amazon affil links]; it will give you a pretty good introduction to the process. Another resource for fairly complete info is "Phosphating of Metals" by Werner Rausch ⇦[this on Amazon or AbeBooks affil links]. Good luck.
