Although it may not be quite "complete", I can recommended Samuel Spring's Preparation of Metal for Painting [affil link on Amazon ]; it will give you a pretty good introduction to the process. Another resource for fairly complete info is "Phosphating of Metals" by Werner Rausch [on Amazon or AbeBooks]. Good luck.
