Welding of thin sheet metal base plates without warpage
Q. Hello , I am a student of production engineering from University of Pune, as a project intern in a small tool room in my final semester. I came across various projects (fixture manufacturing).
I have observed mainly large thickness baseplate are being used for many type of fixture manufacturing. While welding blocks and other components on base plate they come up with baseplate warpage issue (due to welding distortion). I came to know from one of our OEM customers that their aligned branches in North America and Europe are using fixtures with the base plate of thickness 10 mm only; their supplier managed to do it without warpage. From that time I am very curious what process they are using to do it? What can be the process parameters ? What method are they adopting to weld base plates without warpage?
