Attempting to artistically corrode metal

June 8, 2011

I have had some experience working with muriatic acid; however, by itself it's not really giving me the look I'm going for. I have a couple of pictures that might detail better what I'm looking to do. I know the guys who took this picture are using several chemicals to get their final look.

I was hoping you could maybe take a look and give me some direction. Thanks

Try 5% iron (III) chloride solution. Salty water can be used too. Object must be well degreased. Hope it helps and good luck!

Use table salt and hydrogen peroxide. For more brown and less orange you can add a bit of copper sulphate ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] to the mix.
