Silver Oxidation Rate
May 12, 2011
Hello,
I'm a grad student doing research at UIC. We need to plate a sample with silver and it's important that no oxide layers are formed (or at least very little) in between platings. Does anyone know at what rate does silver form Ag2O or Ag2S? I found very little documentation on the actual rate.
Thanks,
Ben

Also, in case either of these oxides form on our sample, I suggested it be kept in a sodium hydroxide solution along with an aluminium anode to remove these layers and prevent others from forming. The oxides and the sulfides then get deposited onto the aluminium. I believe this will work, but I wanted to run it by others to see if I am on the right track.
Thanks,
Ben
