How to determine lead content in jewelry

Hello there,

I buy sterling silver jewellery from Mexico for resale and recently had someone ask me what the lead content is and I was wondering if there is some way to determine what base metal has been used in the jewellery.

Thank you

You can analyze it with portable xrf analyzer,or you can use classic chemical analysis. There are some spot test for lead too,but all of them are not enough sensitive to determine very small lead content.Hope it helps and good luck!
