Copper plating a small snare drum part that already has a preexisting finish
Hello,
I have a couple of small snare drum parts that I can choose from that I'd like to get copper plated. One of them has a preexisting chrome finish; the other has what I believe to be a preexisting black powder-coated finish. Which one of the two parts (they are identical, with the exception of their preexisting finishes) would be the better candidate for copper plating? The base metal is either steel or brass, probably steel. Any advice you can give me as to which of the two parts would be easier for a professional plater to copper plate will be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely, Ray Stansbury

Hi, Ray.
The chrome plated part will be better: Strip the chrome, activate the underlying nickel plating, copper plate, and lacquer.
