Replating (Zinc Trivalent)

How to qualify the replated parts?
Is there any standard for replating process?
Is it advisable to do zinc trivalent plating on hot forged steel surface?

Dear Mr Swaminathan,

You should be able to perform some tensile stress test on the reworked parts if they are going to be used under load.

Hot Forged parts will pick up more than normal embrittlement if plated twice - not so much with cold forged and turned parts.

If there is no issue on the load factor - you may ask your supplier to identify and mark reworked parts. There are many precedents with automotive companies who have their own standards for dealing with reworked parts.

Some standards do call for identifying and scrapping reworked parts.

You should have one of your own as suits your situation.
