Blackened bronze finish and the outside environment

Hello all, I have some beautiful bronze ship lanterns that I am thinking about darkening using Rockler's darkening agent. My question is will it create a black color? How will this finish survive in a salty outside environment by the sea (not on a boat)? These will not be handled so wear is not an issue! Thanks
