Will Olive Drab solve rusting issue on yellow chromated parts?

January 4, 2011

Hello Sir,

Currently we are making use of Yellow passivation for our gusset part (CRCA Steel). and that causes field issue for rusting. So can you suggest for moving to Olive drab finish.

Many thanks

Hi, Magesh. In the days of hexavalent chromating (before RoHS regulations), Olive Drab chromates were thicker than yellow chromates, contained more chrome, and were more corrosion resistant. For most people today, the color of the chromate is only a question of the color of the dye. If quality control does not solve the problem, you probably need thicker zinc plating, or a zinc alloy plating. Good luck.
