Quantitative analysis of Zinc and Iron impurities in Trivalent Passivation Solution

January 4, 2011

Trivalent Chromate passivation is regularly monitored for percentage of the trivalent solution and pH.But impurities like Zinc and Iron which adversely affect the performance of the coating are not monitored.Any suggestion for an accurate and cost-effective method (other than AAS) for the quantitative analysis of the above impurities in the passivation bath?

I do not think that you will be happy with results you obtain from methods that are simpler than AAS. If an AAS is way out of the budget, the next best option is to send your sample to an outside lab.
