-----Best silver for water sterilization/purification
December 12, 2010
I would like to put either silver plated (which I have), sterling silver (which I have), or "pure" silver (I'd have to procure) in the holding tank of a Big Berkey stainless steel water purification unit, so that the water will stay "pure" for a while. Do you know the principals of each of these and can comment on which of the options can be effectively used?
Thanks,
Reb

Talk to a biologist at the University. I thought that silver used to be biocide in very weak amounts.
Your water used to be from the Quabin reservoir which was nearly distilled water. Times must have changed over the last 20 years.
Silver plate is an alloy and will not dissolve at the rate of pure silver (that is normally .999 silver)
When you find out, please let us know. I for one am interested.
