-----Pinholes and craters in E-coating of Nickel plated brass
December 1, 2010
We are having problems electrocoating plated nickel parts. The polished nickel and polished gold parts seem to be covered with pinholes and craters. We are not seeing this on any of our other surfaces. Our satin finished parts never give us any trouble maybe because of the surface? It does not happen all the time on all of the parts. We have tried several different things with no real solutions. We are in the faucet business and our parts very in shape and size.
I would appreciate any advice!
Thanks!

Check sample parts with a 40 power scope after each step to find the offending step. It could be any of them. The first guess is that you are not getting all of the polish off in the cleaning steps.
If it is one of the solutions that is offending, contact your vendor tech services for help. If you are not using proprietary solutions, good luck.
