Electropolishing using a welding power supply

December 2, 2010

Hello,

We are going to use SS 304 and a phosphoric/sulfuric/distilled water solution for electropolishing.

1. It is very expensive to get the appropriate power supply here in India, of 12 volts and 300 amps. Because of our limited budget, we want to experiment with a welding power supply. That is however choppy DC current; is that an issue?

2. Will 36 volts and 300 amps be problematic/dangerous? Is there a maximum voltage that can be used in electropolishing?

Thank you,

Rishi Walker

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
