Amount of Material Build Up from Plating

November 12, 2010

I'm currently a mechanical engineering graduate student working alongside a machine shop nearby. One thing I need to know is the typical build up of material on several different types of plating. I have most of the ones I need but the few that I can't seem to find anything on are the following:

Zinc Phosphate
Precious metals
Gold
Silver
Platinum
Passivation of SS

I have difficulty with the question.

Do you mean evenness of plating (build up on edges etc) or the plating thickness you should specify?

The answer depends on how and why it was plated.

Except for passivation of SS where the answer is effectively zero

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
