E-coating vs. black oxide

Would you please compare e-coating to black oxide finishes?

Hi, Harold. E-coating will generally be more corrosion resistant than black oxide, and is an insulative coating whereas black oxide is conductive. E-coatings are pretty thin, but the black oxide is almost unmeasurable. E-coating will require a pretreatment such as phosphating.

But I could also tell you that the soothing rhythm of the rails of train travel beats the slow wallowing in swells of travel by ship, while completely missing the point that a train may a good way to get from Fayetteville to Atlanta, but a bad way to try to get from Newport News to Lisbon. Unfortunately, short of suggesting that you read chapters of books on the two technologies, it is truly difficult to summarize what you need to know in a paragraph or two. For example, black oxiding doesn't apply to aluminum components.

It would be much better if you post your real-world situation, so that we have some feel for what would be important to you; abstract questions always have ifs, ands, and buts that we forgot to warn you about  🙂

Good luck.
