Sulfuric acid storage tank corrosion

May 25, 2010

Dear Sir,

We have used 1000 tons capacity MS sulfuric acid storage tank.
Now, it is empty except dead zone(0.3 m )for 4 months.
I worry about that top of depth zone can be corrosive in inner side of tank due to water vapour by temperature.
Our tank have already used for 12 years.
If it can be, how long we should be with dead zone?
Concentration is 98% and temperature is 40C.

Thanks and Regards

Ours go to lo-level , the water vapour is captured at the top of each vessel with a flange and a container with the blue silica gel in it acting as a desiccant , the crystals will absorb the vapour - they will also change colour . Remove the crystals and place them in dry heat and they will change back and be reusable .
