Good coating for clothes fabric to slide over without snagging?
December 26, 2009
Dear Sir:
I'm a little inventor and producing a "DRESSING AID" for the ever increasing Senior Population. A ring made of 1/2" tubing, with a diameter of 6 inches requires a very smooth surface so that fabric can glide over it easily. I did Chrome Plating, but it's expensive, so I thought of Plastic Coating. An appealing color could be considered.
Do you have any suggestion and the cost? It's produced in smaller numbers.
Your response to my question would be highly appreciated.

Sincerely
Erich

Hi, Erich. Plating generally doesn't smooth the surface. What may have happened is the plating shop vibratory finished the rings before plating them. You can have them vibratory finished and then corrosion-proofed a lot of different ways. Nylon powder coating might be ideal (similar to what you see on "closet organizer" metal shelving.
