QQ-C-320 + AMS 2406 -versus- ASTM B650

With so many standards and testing procedures out there, it is hard to keep track of what's the same and what's different; what's interchangeable and what isn't. Recently I specified ASTM B650 [affil link] to cover my chromium plating needs for a hydraulic cylinder rod in a heavy duty application (off-road/defence). Understanding that this spec covers quite a lot of needs (thickness, baking for hydrogen embrittlement, salt testing), does anyone know if this can be covered by QQ-C-320 and/or AMS2406 [affil link], in case some platers may choose to identify only with the latter and not the former.

Brian,

You need to do a gap assessment between the specifications and satisfy yourself about where the gaps lie. You can then determine which features are most important to you and whether you could then accept the specifications as equivalent.

You can get hold of a copy of QQ-P-320 from assist quicksearch, the AMS is from SAE.
