MIL-DTL-53039C Type 3 over Type2

I have a part requiring rework. It was painted MIL-DTL-53039C Type 2. The new code calls for type 3. Once I complete the weld repair on the 6061-T6 weldment, Can I touch up with Type3 (CARC)?
