Effects of disposal of powder Coated Metal Parts.

November 27, 2009

I work for a sheet metal cabinet manufacturing company.

Sometimes we generate scrap after the Powder coating process of CRCA sheets possibly due to quality problems. We then sell the scrap to a dealer who recycles the metal.

1.My first question is, when the powder coated sheet steel is burnt for recycling, what happens to the powder that was applied on the surface? What is the effect of burning this powder, on the environment.

2. My second question is, if the powder paint is removed by other methods viz. shot blasting (eithe using sand or using pallets), the powder is stripped out dry. What is the effect on the soil if this mixes with the land?

My feeling is that, the powder manufacturing companies will be able to give some logical answers to these queries.
