Interactions of copper leachate and cementeous materials

I have a project I finished a few years back, four chimneys with a cementeous acrylic finish. Each chimney has a copper chimney pot on top. The leachate from the copper has badly stained the cementeous acrylic finish and in many places the cementeous acrylic finish is flaking off in sheets. Is this caused by an interaction between the copper leachate and the cementeous acrylic finish?
