Chromating and machining pressure die casted aluminium
after chromating the die casted aluminium is it ok to machine the part. does the surface hardness of the material increases after chromating.

Hi
Chromating is a chemical conversion, so that is what happens. The surface is changed from having a natural oxide film to have a chromate aluminum oxide film. This film is very thin and has no influence of the hardness of the surface.
Machining after chromating the surface will remove the chromate aluminum oxide film.
Sunny regards
