-----Corrosion resistance of chrome plated 316 stainless steel
Our grinder salvaged an overground 316 stainless shaft by chrome plating to build up the thickness on a diameter and regrinding to size. Our customer wants to know if the resulting part has similar (or improved) corrosion resistant properties vs. 316 stainless before he will accept the part. Can you help?

First of two simultaneous responses --
It will depend on the climate that it is exposed to. If the chrome job was well done and properly ground, I think that the plated one will be superior to the unplated one in most cases.

Second of two simultaneous responses --
Hard chrome will exhibit equal or better corrosion resistance in virtually any environment.
