Hi, Sheetal. I'm not positive that I understand your question, but I believe that you are thinking of "passivation of stainless steel".

I need to know the passivation of S.S. 316 against red rust, which can be for longer period of time.

Here I am sending you the photographs for your reference.

Awaiting for your reply,

Thanks,

Passivation can be performed with nitric acid or citric acid. Relevant documents include QQ-P-35C (canceled) [link is to free spec at Defense Logistics Agency, dla.mil]c and ASTM ASTM A967.
