What is the precautionary measure for red rusting on stainless steel 316?

Hi, Sheetal. I'm not positive that I understand your question, but I believe that you are thinking of "passivation of stainless steel".

I need to know the passivation of S.S. 316 against red rust, which can be for longer period of time.

Passivation can be performed with nitric acid or citric acid. Relevant documents include QQ-P-35C [link is to free spec at Defense Logistics Agency, dla.mil]c and ASTM ASTM A967.
