What testing to do for zinc plating




I am doing Zinc plating on Zinc alloy (Zamak-5) what type test I have to do for process validation. Current plating process is - Acid cleaning-Plating-blue passivation-Lacquering.

Hi, Valseraj. As a minimum, you'll want to do some sort of adhesion test, a thickness test, and salt spray testing for corrosion resistance -- because these are the minimum requirements for plating, i.e., that it adhere to the parts, be of proper dimension, and resist corrosion.

It can be a good idea to plate to some spec even if your customer doesn't require it because the spec will usually give hints if not rules for testing. Good luck.
