Life expectancy of nickel chrome plating

September 9, 2009

I have a supplier he told me nickel chrome plating will show signs of rust if they are placed in a very humid environment over a period of 9 months. I like to know is this statement true?

What kind of environment control we are talking about?
Is there any standard that I can refer to for environment control?
Any special packaging required for nickel chrome parts?

Hi, Yan. The quality of nickel chrome plating can vary from dismal to exceptional. Nickel-chrome plated truck bumpers and automobile grills don't rust in 9 years in terribly aggressive road use.
