Gun tip of spot welder sticks when welding Galvanneal 90 GSM Sheet

July 27, 2009

I need to weld a CRCA sheet & a GA (Galva Annealed) sheet together both having 0.8 mm thickness. I tried many spot welding parameter combinations as suggested by the experts.

All the spatter, nugget dia., and strength issues are resolved but the new issue is the gun tip is sticking to the GA material. The sticking starts after 100 to 125 spots only. The welding condition is like that in between these two tips there is a copper plate & the two panels. The sticking tips has no direct cooling sources as it is critically designed to reach at specified area.

Can any one suggest to me how to avoid this tip sticking issue with the GA sheet?
