Removal of Hot Dipped Galvanizing from Steel
Is there anyway to remove hot dipped galvanizing from ASTM A572 Gr. 50 steel beams? I'm looking for a method to remove the galvanizing from the bottom flange of a beam in an existing parking garage.

Hi, Ryan. muriatic acid
⇦ on
eBay or
Amazon [affil link] will easily remove the galvanizing, but you have personnel protection issues and the fact that muriatic acid fumes and can corrode other things. Make sure there are no cars in the area, and that you have great ventilation, and that there is no chance of personnel injury from the acid.

Sir:
Be sure to clean up the acid after dissolving the zinc because it will attack the concrete.
