Can copper bar be coated with any strengthening materials?

Generally in rotating machines, CuA1 material is used as a copper bar, because of low cost. But the mechanical strength is very low compare to other high cost materials like CuNi2Si. Whether we can coat any material over CuA1 to increase its mechanical and electrical properties?
