Stainless steel fan guard plating

Does the stainless steel fan guard must plating Cu at first then Ni, Cr?
Is this a formal process?
If so, Why?
Will it impact adherence capability of plating?

Thanks

Hi, Wang. Probably not. Probably Wood's nickel strike, Watt's nickel plating, and then chrome plating.

But it isn't clear to me if you are the designer of this component. It must be plated in compliance with the designer's instructions and intent. A layer of copper is sometimes used when extreme temperature cycling is involved, to add a soft "cushion" layer between two stiff materials (although I am really only familiar with that need for plastic substrates, not stainless).
