Writing a passivation spec

April 22, 2009

- MIL-DTL-81706B
- MIL-DTL-5541 [⇦ this spec on DLA]F
I am wondering if anyone has a quick explanation as to the difference between these to Mil spec's. I place on my prints the following note but wondering if I need to change it.

Mil-DTL-5541F, Type II, Class 3
OR
Mil-DTL-5541F, Type II, Class 1A

Depending what I need but should I reference the MIL 81706B as well or all by itself.

Hello Jim,

Mil-DTL-81706B is a detail of materials. It also comes with a Qualified products list.
If you list Mil-DTL-5541F is references Mil-DTl-81706B therefore I don't believe you need to mention it.

Hope this helps,
