High temp resistant material used as botting on metal surfaces
April 16, 2009
Dear Gentlemen,
I'm Ali Suleiman, Lebanese, having a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering and working as a quality control manager in Beirut, Lebanon.
We build acoustic enclosures or SSPC for generators, I had faced a problem lately after using powder coating instead of synthetic coating. We use sprint for botting some caps or rough metal surfaces and especially over welding particles and joints, so the sprint burns due to high temperature > 170 degrees, needed for powder finishing.
My question is, could any gentleman provide any information about a material that could be used instead of the sprint and resist high temperatures noticing that I tried special silicon type but it resists a max 90 degrees
Your cooperation is highly appreciated
Best regards
Ali

Hi, Ali. I believe the word "botting" is a typo, but I am not sure what you mean, and I've never heard of the product 'sprint'. Is this maybe a body filler and you are looking for a filler that will withstand powder coating cure temperatures?

Dear Mr. Mooney,
Thanks for your swift reply, and sorry for my non exact explanation. We need a thermal paste for finishing the steel surfaces before powder coating. Finishing the steel surfaces, such corners, little edges, caps between steel sheets, etc. this paste had to resist high temperatures up to 200 °C. Kindly, can provide me with some information or specification about this substance and suppliers if possible.

Dura-Chem offers their "Thermobond-3" solvent-free filler for such filling before powdercoating, Ali.
