Preventing blunting of sharp blades by storage in liquid
Q. I am wanting to prevent the corrosion of some very fine edged blades I use in a manufacturing process. Can anyone suggest a method of doing this. I wondered if I could store them when not being used in a chemical like alcohol?

A. By corrosion, I assume that you mean rust. Rust is a product of iron, moisture and oxygen. Remove any one and your blades will not rust. Alcohol might work, but you have a fire problem. A very light oil would work better. VCI paper works fairly well also. Storing under a small vacuum or with an inert gas will also work.

A. There are hundreds of suitable products classed as temporary protectives or water displacement materials.
One of the best known will be WD-40

but there are loads of similar products by various manufacturers. A light penetrating oil would seem your easiest option although you can go up through a complete range to lanolin type products as well.
