Abrasion resistance of type 3 vs type 2 anodizing

October 29, 2008

I received a question about the quantifiable increase in abrasion resistance between type 2 and type 3 anodize. We have never measured the abrasion resistance of type 2, so I don't have anything to which to compare our standard type 3 results.

Has anyone measured the abrasion resistance of a standard type 2 anodize, and if so, what removal rate (mg/ft2) did you obtain?

Thanks,

Some kind soul will probably have that information, but not many places do a wear resistance on type 2 as you know. The data that you will get will not be iron clad as there is a range of acid/temperature/voltage/amperage/time allowed for type 2 and for type 3 that will give a wide difference in the results.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
