Painting and Distressing a Tin Tile Mirror

October 18, 2008

I'm looking to create a tin tile mirror, similar to the ones I see at flea markets and craft shows. I've found a good source for tin tiles, but they are embossed and like new. I am wondering about how to paint and distress the tiles to give a more antiqued/vintage look, similar to the mirror seen here:

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Try 200 gm iron(III)chloride/1 lit water solution. You can download old book on metal colouring by Arthur Hiorns (Internet archive website WWW.archive.org)and then try other formulas for tin colouring. Hope it helps and good luck!

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
