Temperature increase in cyanide treatment

September 1, 2008

Hello:

We are a Spanish waste management and we would like to treat liquid cyanide wastes in our installation. We'll use sodium hypochlorite as oxidant and we wonder to know if during the reaction the temperature increases above 122 °F (50°C).

Thanks and best regards

It can, if the cyanide is concentrated enough.

Run a jar test in an insulated container, and see for yourself.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
