-----Alumn in rinse water
March 16, 2008
Whether it is preferable to use alumn in plating rinse tanks?
We are facing bad water quality (look alike dirty colour) even after softening & demineralizing.
Conductivity & hardness of water is below the permissible range.

Alum is widely used as a coagulant in municipal water treatment and, if allowed to settle properly, should not cause problems. But better would be to use deionized water for rinsing. Good luck.

Softening water just replaces cations like calcium with sodium
cations. Now demineralizing says nothing. How are you doing this and with what success?
Reverse Osmosis is normally adequate for rinse water and is cheaper than DI if you take proper care of the unit.
