Hot Black Oxide on firearm parts
Hi,
I've been calling some shops about re-finishing one of my handguns (a
1911A1 "mil-spec") but couldn't get any to do the job. I live in Brazil and I would need authorization from the "Army" (and that could take more than a year!). I was thinking of doing it myself but could not find specifics on how to. Could someone PLEASE tell me the details; how to do the mixture, for how long should the parts be dipped; the water that has to be added to keep the level, should I boil it to minimize the risks?; what kind of oil to use after the black oxide; do I mask (how?) the parts that shouldn't get blued, do I fine sand it afterwards, or is the finish so thin that will not interfere?; etc...
Any help or guidance will be very much appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for my English.
P.S.- Yes, I red the FAQ's and am aware of the risks involved!

You might check a gunsmithing supplies website for professional instructions and materials. There is a lot more involved than just dunking the gun in the solution.
Good luck.
