Stripping Chromate Conversion Coating From Zinc Die Casting

Hi peoples,

I wonder if anyone would have a suggestion for stripping chromate conversion coating from zinc die casting items. I know that you can strip chromate with a heated chromic acid solution, but it seems very aggressive for zinc parts. Any less aggressive alternatives?

Hello Mr Pickard,

You can use any strong detergent to soak the parts in a while; or 5% NaOH solution in case you can wash it off quickly before the point that it attacks the base metal.
